The principle
Every tool we sell carries its manufacturer's warranty against defects in material and
manufacture. We administer that warranty on your behalf. You send the claim to us, we deal with
the maker, and we replace or refund. You never have to correspond with a factory in another
country in another language.
What is covered
- A defect in the material. Bad steel, a flaw in a casting, a lamination failure
-
A defect in manufacture: a mis-ground bevel, a joint that was not properly finished, a handle
fitted badly
-
A tool that fails in normal use, within its stated capacity, well before it reasonably should
What is not covered
This is the part worth reading before you buy, because several tools in our catalogue have
specific and unusually strict limits.
- Normal wear
-
Edges dull, files lose their teeth, abrasives wear out. That is the tool working, not the tool
failing.
- Consumables
-
Saw blades, sharpening stones, abrasive discs and rolls, and driver bits are consumable. They
are covered against a manufacturing defect present on arrival, not against wear.
- Use outside stated capacity
-
Cutting hard wire with a cutter rated for soft wire notches the edge permanently. The capacity
figures on the product page are the limit, not a suggestion.
- Use outside stated purpose
-
Some tools have absolute restrictions. A single-bevel plastic nipper will be destroyed by one
cut through metal, and that is stated plainly on its product page. A paring chisel struck with
a mallet will eventually part from its handle. These failures are not defects.
- Corrosion
-
High-carbon steel rusts. It is the price of the edge retention you bought it for. Oil the
blade before it goes in the drawer.
- Modification, regrinding and repair
-
Reground bevels, shortened blades, replaced handles and drilled tools are outside warranty.
Sharpening in the normal way is not a modification.
- Calibration drift
-
A torque wrench drifting out of calibration through use is a maintenance item, not a defect.
Recalibrate annually, or after any drop.
Lifetime guarantees
Some makers guarantee their tools for life without qualification. Where that applies it is
stated on the product page. Currently that covers tools from
PB Swiss Tools, Wera, Wiha in our range. A broken tool is replaced regardless of age, subject to the exclusions
above.
Warranty period by category
| Category | Period |
| Hand tools (drivers, pliers, wrenches, chisels) | Manufacturer's stated period: commonly lifetime against defects |
| Machines (sharpening systems) | Typically 7 years, non-industrial use |
| Consumables (blades, stones, abrasives, bits) | Defects present on arrival only |
| Measuring and layout tools | Manufacturer's stated period; accuracy loss from dropping excluded |
Making a claim
-
Email support@exelprod.com with your order number,
the part number, and photographs showing the fault clearly.
- We assess within one business day and tell you whether it is a warranty matter.
-
If it is, we issue a return label at our cost. Do not send the tool to the manufacturer. It
will slow the claim down considerably.
-
We replace from stock where we have it, or refund. On special-order items we replace on the
maker's next production run and tell you the date.
If you are not sure whether it is a defect or wear, ask anyway.
Send a photograph and we will tell you than have you assume you are stuck with a faulty tool.
Statutory rights
This warranty is in addition to your statutory rights and does not affect them. Nothing here
limits your right to a remedy where goods are faulty, not as described, or not fit for purpose.
