Bit life is mostly a function of fit, not hardness. A bit that sits proud in the recess concentrates load on the tip corners and shears them off. Torsion-zone bits deliberately twist along the shank to absorb impact spikes that would otherwise crack the tip. For repetitive driving, a torsion bit in a good holder outlasts a hard bit by a wide margin.
