About the maker
Liogier was founded in 1920 by Marcelin Liogier in Saint-Didier-en-Velay, in the Haute-Loire department of France, and passed down through four generations of the family (Noël in 1947, Marcel in 1962, then the current proprietor from 1980). The company hand-stitches the teeth of its rasps and rifflers individually using a punch and hammer, a process that can require tens of thousands of hammer strikes per tool. Its products are used by sculptors, luthiers, and furniture restorers.
